Why Should I Detox?

Did you know that many reasons why people are sick or end up with inflammation and disease in the body is through unchecked build-up of toxins in the body? There are many different toxins that enter our bodies from different sources and disrupt and interfere with our internal endocrine system.

The endocrine system consists of a set of glands (thyroid, gonads, adrenal and pituitary) and the hormones they produce (thyroxine, estrogen, testosterone and adrenaline), which help guide the development, growth, reproduction, and behaviour of animals, including humans. Hormones are signalling molecules, which travel through the bloodstream and elicit responses in other parts of the body.

Known endocrine disruptors in the human body include:

Heavy Metals like lead, nickel, tin, arsenic, cadium, antimony and uranium. Heavy metals cause oxidative damage to your cells and deplete essential minerals your body needs. One of the big one’s is mercury from dental fillings.

Household Products that contain plasticizers such as Bisphenol A found in plastic bottles. Endocrine disruptors may be found in many everyday products– including metal food cans, detergents, food, toys, and cosmetics.

Pharmaceuticals

Endocrine-disrupter compounds (EDC) are also found in pharmaceuticals. Protein Disulfide Isomerase (PDI) in the endoplasmic reticulum of all cells catalyses the rearrangement of disulfide bridges during folding of membrane and secreted proteins. As PDI is also known to bind various molecules including hormones such as estradiol and thyroxin, we considered the hypothesis that adverse effects of endocrine-disrupter compounds (EDC) could be mediated through their interaction with PDI leading to defects in membrane or secreted proteins.

The present data indicate that the tested EDCs could not only affect endocrine target cells through nuclear receptors as previously shown, but could also affect these and all other cells by positively or negatively affecting PDI activity. The substrate DiE-GSSG has been demonstrated to be a convenient substrate to measure PDI reductase activity in the presence of various potential EDCs. It will certainely be usefull for the screening of potential effect of all kinds of chemicals on PDI reductase activity. -Source: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0009507

Phytoestrogens

Another natural example of an endocrine disrupter is Phytoestrogens, which are naturally occurring substances in plants that have hormone-like activity. Examples of phytoestrogens are genistein and daidzein, which can be found in soy-derived products.

Emotional Toxins

Emotional toxicity from stressful situations can cause mental and physical impairment in the body, even witnessing a traumatic event on the television screen can cause emotional toxins in the body.

Electromagnetic Frequencies that mess with our body’s electromagnetic frequency and include cell /mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, power lines and telecommunication towers.

Environmental Pesticides, Herbicides and Flame Retardants

More than 50 pesticide active ingredients have been identified as endocrine disruptors by the European Union and endocrine disruptor expert Theo Colborn, PhD. –Source: https://www.beyondpesticides.org/resources/pesticide-induced-diseases-database/endocrine-disruption

A huge number of chemicals have been identified as endocrine disruptors, among them several pesticides. Pesticides are used to kill unwanted organisms in crops, public areas, homes and gardens, and parasites in medicine.  -Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3138025/

PBCs

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a broad group of chemicals that includes 209 aromatic chlorinated hydrocarbons used for products ranging from fluorescent light fixtures to coolant fluids inside parts of consumer electronics. Short-term exposure to large amounts of PCBs can cause liver damage; the effects of smaller concentrations can be more subtle, affecting the reproductive development of children of exposed mothers. -Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1480494/

The potential for human exposure to PCBs still exists, however, because they persist in air, soil, and water sediments for many years. Additionally, they are also found in older transformers, capacitors, fluorescent lighting fixtures, electrical devices, and appliances that are still in use.

Dioxin and Dioxin-like Compounds (DLCs)

Dioxins and dioxin-like compounds (DLCs) are compounds that are highly toxic environmental persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

DLCs are unintended by-products of combustion. Combustion sources can be of anthropogenic (e.g., waste incineration) or natural origin (e.g., forest fires). Industrial (e.g., paper and chemical manufacturing) and biological processes also contribute to DLC production, although in smaller quantities.

Nutritional supplementation is a powerful and effective way to detox your system but before you rush out and buy different detox vitamins, minerals and herbs, you need to know the different grades of nutritional supplements available in the marketplace: Pharmaceutical Grade, Medical Grade, Cosmetic or Nutritional Grade.

Pharmaceutical Grade is the highest quality grade of vitamins and supplements meaning the purity; dissolution and absorption meet the highest regulatory standard verified by an independent party. Pharmaceutical grade vitamins and nutrients may be available without a prescription, but they are typically sold by licensed health care professionals.

Medical Grade vitamins and nutrients are also high-grade supplements but may not meet all the standards of pharmaceutical grade supplements. Prenatal vitamins normally fall into this category.

Cosmetic or Nutritional Grade supplements are typically sold in health food stores, chemists and, readily available on supermarket shelves. These supplements may not always be tested for absorption, dissolution or purity. Additionally, these supplements do not always have the same concentration of active ingredients as what is listed on the label.

You may or may not be aware that 98% of supplements readily available are of cosmetic grade… not even close to pharmaceutical grade.

One line of powerful and very effective nutritional supplements is the Le-vel brand THRIVE line here https://brainspahealth.le-vel.com  The reason people are seeing amazing results when using THRIVE nutritional supplements, and why they cost a little more, is because they are pharmaceutical-grade, and only the highest quality nutritional ingredients are sourced.

What is Stress and how is it Created?

There are many external and internal forces that trigger stress within our bodies and throw our lives out of balance. Many people will say “that type of thing always stresses me out” or “she or he stresses me out”.

Stress is any change in the environment that requires your body to react and adjust in response and can be triggered by relationship difficulties or breakdown, workplace related stress, schoolyard and workplace bullying, serious trauma such as a serious accident, domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual abuse. And we haven’t even looked at the numerous environmental stresses we are bombarded with every day.

The body reacts to these changes with physical (chemical changes in the body), mental (fatigue and constant worrying), and emotional responses and these emotional stresses store themselves in the body in what are commonly called emotional stress blockages.

Forty-three percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress and seventy-five percent to 90% of all doctor’s office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints. The earlier we detect and relieve stress, the quicker we can get ourselves back on track.

The first thing we need to understand about stress is it is created from within. It is not the event that causes the stress in our body… it is how we interpret, react and respond to the event or embedded internal triggers which creates the stress and creates what are commonly called emotional blockages within the body.

So the event is outside, and the stress and emotional triggers and blockages are created from within.

When stressed, the body thinks it is under attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode, releasing a complex mix of hormones and chemicals such as adrenaline, Cortisol and norepinephrine to prepare the body for physical action and, excess Cortisol can interfere with a bunch of different processes causing poor health.

First is Immunity.

If you have too much Cortisol, you suppress immune function by suppressing the activity of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This prevents the release of neurotransmitters that help immune function.

So basically, all you’ve heard about stress being related to illness is dead on. If you’re stressed out, you’re going to get sick.

Second is how your Metabolism is Regulated and what you Crave.

When you have too much stress, you can crave salty or sugary foods. Cravings of these foods are very real; because the body is looking for minerals or fuel (in the form of sugars) to continually adjust to your metabolic imbalances.

Many times, when you fix the adrenals and eliminate the stress, you can get rid of some of the physiological cravings – the emotional ones require a different set of skills to eliminate!

Third are Cardiovascular Issues.

Poor adrenal function leads to changes in how your body regulates heart rate and blood pressure. Inability to regular your cardiovascular system can lead to poor circulation, high or low blood pressure and all diseases related to these issues, particularly hypertension.

Fourth is Thinner Skin and Weaker Bones.

Excess Cortisol is directly related to thinner skin and weaker bones. Weaker bones are related to the inability of hormones to regular body processes, as well as the excess acidity that is created in the body when excess Cortisol is present.

Managing stress and making sure you have plenty of minerals and vitamin D is a much better strategy than drugs for those who have symptoms or signs of osteoporosis.

I hope that helps you understand why you need to take care of your adrenals. I know from experience what it’s like to have adrenal fatigue and it’s not anything I’d wish on anyone.

The best thing to do is take preventative steps to make sure it doesn’t happen to you, instead of waiting until you’ve damaged your adrenals and then struggle to fix them.”

Would You Like To:

  • Stop worrying all the time?
  • Prevent anxiety and panic attacks?
  • Stop feeling tried and drained all the time?
  • Increase your energy level?

Did you know that stress and emotional blockages in the body are major contributors to all the above challenges? That’s right… your first step to gaining control in all areas of your life is eliminating the stress (family, relationship, work and environmental stresses) from your life. One of the quickest ways to remove stress and emotional blockages can be achieved quickly and painlessly through hypnosis.

However stress is not all bad, stress is necessary and can sometimes even be desirable. Exciting or challenging events such as the birth of a child, participating in a challenging sport, completion of a major work project or moving to a new city generates as much stress as does tragedy or disaster. And without it, life would be dull.

In the modern world, the ‘fight or flight’ mode can still help us survive dangerous situations, such as reacting swiftly to a person running in front of our car by slamming on the brakes. The blood flow is going only to the most important muscles needed to handle the situation.

Stress related issues arise when we put our bodies into unnecessary states of stress or by becoming stressed in inappropriate situations. This can lead to an inability to ‘think straight’; and if not addressed, can lead to panic attacks, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and depression.

Stress targets the weakest part of our physiology or character; if you are prone to lower back pain, joint pain, headaches, acne or eczema, this will flare up.  If you have low levels of patience or tolerance for others, this will be the first area to present under times of stress.

Many people will try to relieve their stress by turning to alcohol, tobacco, or drugs to try to relieve their stress. Unfortunately, instead of relieving the stress and returning the body to a natural relaxed state, these substances tend to compound the problem by keeping the body in a stressed state which eventually leads to more problems… physical, mental and emotional.

Unless these emotional stresses are addressed; they can build up on top of each other and eventually show up in the body as skin disorders, excess weight and often chronic pain (often lower back pain). When years of stress blockages like this build up, they can contribute and lead to serious diseases in the body.

Fortunately Hypnotherapy is a powerful way to address and release emotional blockages and stress triggers from your body and mind. When released many benefits are almost instantaneous… and others gradually improve over time. So Hypnotherapy is holistic in nature and is about bringing about harmony and balance within… emotionally, physically and mentally.

What is Hypnosis and how does it Work?

Hypnosis is a really powerful tool. It can help establish the right neural patterns in the brain to establish a new way of interacting with certain situations. And this includes establishing new, healthier habits (and breaking bad ones).

Hypnosis lets you access deep seated behavioural patterns without the emotion, you become deeply relaxed and highly focused which in turn enables you to escape old habits and disassociate from traumatic events, even from childhood.

Once in this state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness you are able to communicate with the unconscious part of your mind where you can uncover any unconscious patterns you may be running that are controlling your life… and many times you are not even consciously aware that these patterns even existed.

Hypnosis empowers you with tools that you can use to adjust and tweak these unconscious patterns to better serve you and the goals you have for your life. Hypnosis allows you to transform yourself… and the transformation happens from the inside out… it comes from within. The transformation comes from the insights you discover inside (the unconscious mind)… not from the external information you receive (conscious mind).

Did you know that many famous people from all walks of life including sports stars, business executives, professional speakers, singers, stage actors and movie stars use hypnotherapy on a regular basis to remove stage fright, emotional stress, self-confidence and self-esteem issues as well as keeping themselves positively on track with their life goals. Hypnotherapy is one of the most powerful methods for getting permanent results. You only need to Google this to discover more.

You see there’s nothing strange or mysterious about hypnotherapy. It’s just a profession like any other profession. Hypnotherapists are trained professionals just like a psychologist or a solicitor or an architect… except in our case we are a profession that leads the way for business goal setting, getting the right mindset, creating abundance, tackling self-confidence and self-esteem issues, dealing with stress, anxiety and panic attacks, phobias, pain management, quitting cigarettes, weight-loss, sports performance enhancement and many, many other issues people have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. And it all has to do with the power of the unconscious mind.

You may have heard people describe the mind in many different ways but let’s look at the structures of the mind – the conscious part of the mind and the unconscious part of the mind.

The conscious mind is what we are consciously aware of at any point in time, in the present moment. The conscious mind is where we do all the analysing an evaluating. It is where we make all the day-to-day decisions.

The unconscious mind is where everything else is stored, everything we have ever seen, heard, felt, smelt or experienced… good and bad… much of which, we may no longer be even consciously aware of. Your unconscious mind is also responsible for all of the body’s automatic functions. It makes your eyes blink, your heart beat, makes you breath faster or slower when you need to.  It digests your food and controls your hormones.

What I am saying, metaphorically speaking is to look at your unconscious mind as your automatic pilot. Your unconscious mind runs your life for you.

Every event and experience you have ever witnessed is all stored in the unconscious mind. All learning, all behaviour, all change is in fact programmed into your unconscious mind. And you have been programming things you learn, beliefs, values, morals, habits (good and bad) and all sorts of other things into your unconscious mind since the day you were born. These habits and beliefs then create neurological patterns.

When we learn things, we store them in the unconscious mind and they become automatic.  You see, everything you do automatically, without thinking, is an unconscious habit. Even you’re breathing… it just happens for you.

If you run and your body needs more oxygen pumped to the cells in your muscles, you don’t need to think about it, you automatically breathe faster and heavier and your heart rate increases to pump that extra oxygen around your body quickly to get it to where it is needed. Your unconscious mind takes care of all of the body’s autonomic functions for you.

When you need to think about something to do it – it is a conscious process. For example when you first learnt to read, you really had to think about every letter – every sound – and just take in small pieces of information at a time – because that is all the conscious mind can handle.

When you learnt to drive a car – it was think, think, think … gears … blinkers … brake … check mirrors ….  And so on. It was difficult concentrating on so many things at once. That’s because the tiny conscious part of the mind gets overloaded very easily.

So what happens is that when we practice something over and over again, the conscious mind downloads that information to the powerful unconscious mind which then handles all those sorts of things and they become automatic – an easy habitual behaviour.

So you learn something, you practice it, you relegate it to the unconscious mind, the unconscious takes over that function for you – and then you get access to it on automatic pilot. So you see, when you no longer need to think about something … when you do it automatically, it is unconscious.

It has been programmed into the unconscious mind which then takes it on board as an automatic behaviour or habit.  Now some of these habits and learning are useful – like driving a car or reading and writing.  But some habits and learning are not useful – such as smoking or overeating … or phobias or panic attacks.

Whatever we program into the unconscious mind will become an automatic function that is no longer under our conscious control.

You may have tried previously to change unhealthy habits or unwanted programmed responses with conscious willpower but how hard is that?  You see, the reality is we come hardwired to actually protect those old habits because it’s the job of the unconscious mind hold onto them.

It doesn’t forget or let go of them. It holds onto them to protect us and keep us alive. You don’t unlearn something that you have programmed in. And remember… the unconscious mind does not analyse whether it is a good or bad habit or response or program… it simply accepts what you have programmed into it, runs that program and holds onto to it to protect us.

Take for instance; driving a car, you wouldn’t all of a sudden forget what you have to do. The unconscious mind holds onto everything so we don’t have to relearn them all over again… it is our survival mechanism. The unconscious mind protects the body by protecting the habits and learning that you have formed and programmed into the subconscious mind.

That’s right!  The unconscious mind never forgets. That’s why when you consciously try to break a bad habit, the unconscious mind holds onto it… to protect you… and it feels like there’s a battle going on inside. This is because that is exactly what is happening. There is an inner conflict between the conscious and the unconscious mind.

So whenever you try to stop smoking or lose weight, or break any of those unwanted habits or responses, the conscious mind may be trying to release it – but the unconscious mind hold on to it because it thinks it is protecting you..

So it naturally follows that when you want to make changes to these programmed patterns and behaviours the changes must be made at an unconscious level… and this is what is achieved through hypnotherapy.  Hypnotherapy, simply stated, bypasses the conscious mind and speaks directly to and reprograms the unconscious mind.

By using hypnotherapy we can bypass all that difficult practice/relearning stage… the hard way… and then changing unwanted habits and behaviours becomes easy… an automatic process.

It is a method of controlling or breaking a habit in a quick, easy and effortless way and regaining control of our lives.  And when hypnotherapy is done correctly, that’s exactly what happens.

So where do habits come from?  Let’s look at smoking. Many people tried smoking in their younger days because it was ‘cool’ or for some other ‘feel good’ reason. They did it consciously and battled through the coughing and spluttering – the awful taste – and then they kept repeating this behaviour until the unconscious mind said okay… I’ve got it… I’ll make this an automatic habit for you.

And the unconscious mind programmed it in as a ‘feel good’ habit because at the time, that’s what it was… it was “cool” or you felt part of a group, or you believed it relaxed you. And from that moment onwards you became a smoker.

Now you can tell yourself consciously “I will not smoke, I will not smoke, I will not smoke” but you find yourself desperately wanting to reach out for a cigarette because the conscious mind is the thinking part of the mind but the unconscious mind is the feeling emotional part of the mind… and it runs the show.

The unconscious mind is much larger, much stronger and far more powerful… it’s your survival mechanism. And your feelings (emotions) will always over-ride your conscious thoughts unless you elicit tremendous will-power.

Therefore, it is a simple fact that when you try making changes consciously, it is difficult because the unconscious mind holds the power and it will keep running the programmed behaviour – in this case, smoking because it is programmed in as a “feel good” habit.

The reason hypnotherapy is so powerful in changing unconscious habits and behaviours, is because you do not have to consciously try over and over again to think a certain way or to behave a certain way. Hypnotherapy speaks directly to the unconscious mind so the change is instantaneous – automatic. It makes it easy and effortless… and it makes it permanent.

So now that we know that hypnotherapy is a totally normal and natural everyday occurring state where you’re totally safe and in totally in control, the question is, does hypnotherapy really work? The answer is a definite yes.

So as you can now see, during a therapeutic hypnotherapy session, you and the hypnotherapist are working together toward the same positive outcome. This is the reason we tailor our programs so carefully for each individual and the reason we maintain such a high level of success.

What makes our practice so unique is the advanced processes and innovative techniques we use to address the individual requirements of each client. We conduct a free first session to talk about your particular challenge and see if we are indeed able to help and, if not, we will gladly refer you to the appropriate professional.

Many studies, conducted over long periods of time, have proven the success of hypnotherapy and, modern technology is now actually scientifically able to monitor its effectiveness. So it certainly works and not only that, we have, over time, actually improved it. Our advanced hypnotherapy techniques are achieving phenomenal success in many different areas… and normally in just one session.

How to do a Mini Detox

How to do a Mini Detox:

A Short 1-Week Body Detox

This mini detox is designed to ease you into the world of detoxing and to allow you to feel how rejuvenated you will feel when you give your body a chance to cleanse. Ideally you should do this detox for 30-days and do it three times a year. but let’s start with a short one week mini detox. The aim here is to alkalise our bodies to combat the acid waste we have accumulated.

Things to Avoid During Your Mini Detox Week:
Alcohol, Sugar, Meat, Dairy, Wheat (Gluten), Fast Foods, Processed Packed Foods (most contain refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in varying degrees and under different guises).

Things to Do During Your Mini Detox Week:
Drink at least 2-3 litres of pure filtered water. Don’t use bottled water as most is either distilled or created using the reverse osmosis method both of which, strip the water of everything including the good minerals and leave your water acidic and tasteless. Remember we are trying to alkalise our bodies so do not need to be putting in acidic water.

Read our article: Best Water Purification Filtration System

Upon Waking Every Morning
Do this as soon as you wake up and before you eat or drink anything else apart from filtered water. Squeeze half a fresh lemon or pour 5ml of apple cider vinegar into a large 250ml glass of warm or room temperature filtered water and sip away until it is all gone. Remember, do this before you eat or drink anything else. This will hydrate and alkalise your body and stimulate and assist your liver in the detox process.

Now you can have a cup of tea (herbal) or coffee (decaffeinated) but we want to avoid caffeine. Do not use refined sugar. If you must sweeten your beverage, do it with Stevia (natural plant derived sweetener) or Natvia (only 0.4% calories as compared to 16 calories for equivalent in refined sugar), which contains Erythritol (fruit sugar) and Steviol Glycosides (extracted from Stevia), and now available in granulated form from most supermarkets and a lot sweeter than refined sugar.

Stevia and Natvia are among the healthiest substitutes for sugar, are non-toxic and also have several traditional medicinal uses. Studies suggest that Stevia has a regulating effect on the pancreas and could help stabilise blood sugar levels in the body.

DO NOT use artificial sweeteners like Equal as they contain very questionable ingredients like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and you do not want to be putting those into your body.

Remember, this is only a mini detox and we want to avoid all artificial stimulants. We want to create a natural energy boost that will last, not spike then crash.

Breakfast
Cereals: is a bowl of natural unsweetened cereal (check the label, if it contains sugar don’t buy it). Try puffed rice, corn or kamut with almond or pure coconut milk. If you must sweeten it try fruit, Stevia or a drizzle of pure honey (Manuka honey is the best if you can get it).

Porridge with a tablespoon of coconut oil (brain food) added and sweetened with dates, date paste, Stevia or a drizzle of pure Manuka honey.

Toast: If you have toast, use gluten-free bread with pure butter (not margarine) and smear with Vegemite or almond butter. Avoid jams and honey here as we want to avoid the sugar spike as much as possible. Try it with Vegemite, tomato and avocado (sounds like a weird combination but tastes awesome and good for you).

Pancakes, muffins and the like are okay provided they are gluten-free and do not contain added sugar (read the labels) or make your own using one of the numerous different gluten-free alternative flours readily available from your local health food store.

Smoothie: Instead of the above, try a power smoothie made with fresh fruit and vegetables with fresh filtered water (hydration again) or almond or coconut milk. We try different combinations of fruits like bananas, mango, kiwi fruit, green apples, pineapple, watermelon, paw paw, pears, peaches, nectarines, berries, tomatoes and sprouted vegetables.

We normally go to our local organic fruit and vegetable store and just buy up what’s available in the bargain trolley… hey we are not keeping it, it’s going into our smoothies… and its cost effective!

If you have to buy frozen fruits, check the labels and make sure its all pure frozen fruit with no added sugar. Yes I know unbelievable isn’t it! Why would you want to add sugar to naturally sweet fruit? Because we are addicted to sugar and the major manufacturers know it!

It’s fun to combine and we get some not so tasty combos but some that just blow your taste buds away. You can also combine green powders, readily available from your health food store, that contain a combination of (preferably fermented) cereal grasses, green vegetables and algae plus enzymes, probiotics and food-based supplements. Chlorella and cilantro (coriander) are potent heavy metal detox foods, especially for mercury. Chlorella is a food that can be consumed daily.

The one we use is Vitality Super Green which contains an extraordinary spectrum (or life force) of fermented algae and cereal grasses, fermented green veggies, enzymes, probiotics and food-based supplements providing you the highest quality green drink, to help rebuild and strengthen your immunity and to create new vitality. Check out the make-up of Vitality Super Green Here

Add a scoop or two of Vitality Super Green to your fruit smoothies and you won’t notice the difference, and the energy boost it will give you is phenomenal and will normally last all day.

Lunch
Lunch can be difficult sometimes particularly if you are working or out and about during the day. It gets tempting to just grab some fast food… but don’t do it! You will be defeating the whole purpose of the detox. Remember, its only for one week. Take a packed lunch (gluten-free wrap) with you and a large bottle of filtered water.

Try Sushi for lunch but get the rolls without meat or cooked ingredients. Try the vegetable rolls or one’s with raw fish like salmon and tuna. Or find a place that makes fresh wraps and combine whatever you want but avoid the meats. Even the local Kebab shop will give you a vegetable wrap with tabouli, tomato, lettuce, carrot, cucumber and beetroot.

Once again if you have to have a hot drink then make it a herbal tea or decaf coffee. Avoid bottled or packaged fruit juices as most say they are pure natural juice but they are mostly made from concentrate, which has sugar added (remember they know we are addicted).

Get your juice freshly squeezed from a juice bar or try 100% coconut water (great for re-hydrating) now readily available from most large supermarket chains.

Dinner
There are a lot of combinations you can try for dinner but during a detox week, we normally go for the gluten-free wraps again but this time with salmon or tuna for variety. They are nourishing and not to heavy, which is important for the evening meal as we want to process it before going to bed. Try to eat an hour or two before going to bed.

If you absolutely need a cooked meal (no meat) then try steamed vegetables with fresh fish cooked in a little pure organic coconut oil or poached in some almond or coconut water. Roast vegetables sprinkled with fresh herbs and roasted in a little coconut oil are also delicious.

We use coconut oil for all our baking, roasting and frying because it does not break down when subjected to high heat like vegetable oils and the like which oxidise when heated. Read more about why we shouldn’t use vegetable oils here https://healthyhomesblog.com under the heading “Coconut Oil in Your Kitchen

For those who don’t like the taste or smell of coconut there are varieties of coconuts that are tasteless and odourless.

There are many recipes you can try from your cookbook, just eliminate or substitute the meat and dairy and you will be surprised how tasty they are. Try rice, tomato and herb dishes or baked sweet potato with whole baked mushrooms (baking them whole seals in the juices). Remember we are only doing this for one week to see how much better we feel… its not that hard and you are going to notice the difference.

Goodies to Stuff into Your Gluten-Free Wraps
Tuna and wild salmon (canned okay but only in natural brine or spring water, Raw grated, beetroot (not canned), Cucumber, Celery, Tomatoes, Shredded raw zucchini, Grated raw sweet potato, Grated raw pumpkin (sweet and tastes great), Kale and Lettuce, Capsicum, Onions and Garlic, Herbs and spices, Hummus and Tahini, and Cous Cous, Almond nut and Chia seed spread, Dates (great sweetener for desert wraps), Banana, Kiwi Fruit, Green Apples, Shredded coconut or the meat of a fresh whole coconut, Fresh Berries (if you have to buy frozen, read the label and get the ones with no added sugar and yes most supermarkets have them. We use the Creative Gourmet brand from Coles).

When you have finished your detox it is recommended you eat only healthy fats, avoid all wheat and gluten products and minimize your sugar intake to raw honey. The following is a list of foods the fall into the preceding categories.

Healthy fats: extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, grass-fed tallow and organic or pasture-fed butter, ghee, almond milk, avocados, coconuts, olives, nuts and nut butters, cheese (except for blue cheeses), and seeds (flax seed, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, Chia seeds).

Good Sources of Protein: whole eggs; wild fish (salmon, black cod, mahi mahi, grouper, herring, trout, sardines); shellfish and molluscs (shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels, clams, oysters); grass-fed (NOT grain fed) meats (pork, beef, lamb, veal, liver, bison), free-range fowl and poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, and ostrich) and wild game.

Healthy Vegetable Choices: leafy greens and lettuces, collards, spinach, broccoli, kale, chard, cabbage, onions, mushrooms, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, sauerkraut, artichoke, alfalfa sprouts, green beans, celery, bok choy, radishes, watercress, turnip, asparagus, garlic, leek, fennel, shallots, scallions, ginger, parsley, water chestnuts.

Low-Sugar Vegetables and Fruits: avocado, bell peppers, cucumber, tomato, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, eggplant, lemons, limes.

Herbs, Seasonings, and Condiments (use fresh if you can find them): These are normally okay but just check the labels for added ingredients. Get rid of tomato sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, and chutney (nearly all are full of sugar) but mustard, horseradish, and salsa are okay provided they are free of gluten, wheat, soy, and sugar. There are virtually no restrictions on herbs and seasonings but once again check the labeling and avoid ones that were made at plants that process wheat and soy. Your best bet is to go fresh herbs and seasonings straight out of your garden or from your local organic health food store.
