Is Detoxing for You?

Robyn Openshaw is a researcher and expert in human detoxification.

You’ve heard about cleansing or detoxing, and maybe you’ve wondered:

  • Is it scary?
  • Will I suffer?
  • Will I be hungry?
  • Don’t I have a liver and kidneys already “detoxing” for me?
  • Will my food addictions get the best of me?
  • Will I fail?

Robyn made this short video about WHO should detoxify, and WHY…..after over 20 years of studying with the most gifted and knowledgeable holistic clinicians all over the world–on 4 continents, in 19 clinics.

She learned that the vast majority of medical doctors have no idea how to optimize the detoxification pathways of the body.

And why you NEED to, just like you need to change the air filter and oil filter in your car.

(If you’d had a Model T in the 1930’s during the infamous Dust Bowl, could you have driven forever without changing the air filter? With 84,000 chemicals approved for use in our environment now….well, it’s the equivalent of the Dust Bowl!)

Eating processed food and animal products, and even conventional produce sprayed with herbicides and pesticides, adds to your Toxic Body Burden. (That is, the amount of toxicity that goes in, reduced by the amount that is filtered out, by your organs of elimination.)

Toxins in your beauty products and in your water and air are other sources of exposure.

We live in a strange new world full of synthetic chemicals harmful to human life, everywhere.

(The Environmental Working Group estimates the average woman is exposed to over 100 harmful chemicals every week, through personal care products alone!)

In your food, there are genetically modified ingredients, synthetic additives, preservatives, nitrites and nitrates in cured meats, neurotoxins like MSG and aspartame in hundreds of products. And so much more.

Municipal water contains endocrine disruptors like chlorine, fluoride, phthalates, and even residuals of prescription drugs. Bottled water contains leached plastics.

In Robyn’s Detox Video Masterclass she’s made available to us, Robyn tackles all these topics.

If you’ve ever wondered what you can do, to eliminate more toxicity from your body, check out her 4 really educational inspiring and educational videos in the masterclass on these topics:

She’s offering you a spot in her FREE video class, on how to clean up and reboot your organs of elimination, to feel better than you have in 20 years.

VIDEO: Is Detoxing For You?
After 20 years of research and experimentation, Robyn has now supported over 10,000 people through a 26-day detox process.

She’s gathered data, including 500 detoxers’ inspiring stories, and she has some pretty interesting things to say about what happens, in the process!

(What’s “easy and fun.” What’s “hard.” She’s really honest about it.)

If you think detoxing is for weight loss, think again. Watch the short video to learn why some folks in the “ideal weight” category are shown to be at higher risk than those with lots of external body fat.

Detoxing is for anyone who lives where there’s car exhaust, processed food, chlorine and fluoride in the water, electronic devices in your energy field, or who experiences chronic stress. Robyn explains why.

It’s a strange, polluted world out there, and we have to get very smart, to eliminate higher-than-ever “toxic body burden.”

That’s where A (the input of toxic chemicals) minus B (the amount of chemical burden your elimination channels successfully excrete) = C (what’s left).

So, what do you do about the remainder? That overwhelm of toxicity, when kidneys, liver, lymphatic system, blood, and respiratory system can’t keep up?

An extremely well tested detoxification process radically reduces your disease risk.

Plus, following the program for 26 days robs your fat stores of the job they’re currently doing for you.

(Because your fat stores are hoarding toxic chemicals. Why? So they don’t get into critical organs and kill you. Your fat plays a very important role, especially around the middle of your body. And your body will keep hoarding fat, until you decrease that toxic body burden.)

I highly recommend this Video Masterclass, where Robyn explains that. She began researching detoxification when she was obese, very ill with 21 diseases, and her 1-year old was dying, in and out of hospitals, on constant bronchial drugs, steroids, and antibiotics. A “failure to thrive” baby below the 5th percentile, he clung to life and bounced in and out of emergency rooms.

What she discovered is in this Video Masterclass. Detoxing twice a year is how she became a competitive athlete, and ditched 70 pounds and all medications and disease states. She was dying, and on half a dozen drugs, diagnosed with 21 diseases, at 25. Now she’s 50 and free of all symptoms, diagnoses, and prescriptions.

She believes that aging isn’t so much about years, as much as toxic body burden overwhelming the immune system.

And I won’t be a spoiler, but there’s a really amazing story about what happened to her severely ill “Failure to Thrive” baby, in one of the masterclass videos as well.

Watch this short video to help you think through whether a period devoted to resting, rebuilding, and repairing your elimination organs and immune system is right for you.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of decreasing your own toxicity, take a deeper look, in the free video masterclass. And ask questions of Robyn after watching any of the videos. Enjoy!

How to do a Mini Detox

How to do a Mini Detox:

A Short 1-Week Body Detox

This mini detox is designed to ease you into the world of detoxing and to allow you to feel how rejuvenated you will feel when you give your body a chance to cleanse. Ideally you should do this detox for 30-days and do it three times a year. but let’s start with a short one week mini detox. The aim here is to alkalise our bodies to combat the acid waste we have accumulated.

Things to Avoid During Your Mini Detox Week:
Alcohol, Sugar, Meat, Dairy, Wheat (Gluten), Fast Foods, Processed Packed Foods (most contain refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in varying degrees and under different guises).

Things to Do During Your Mini Detox Week:
Drink at least 2-3 litres of pure filtered water. Don’t use bottled water as most is either distilled or created using the reverse osmosis method both of which, strip the water of everything including the good minerals and leave your water acidic and tasteless. Remember we are trying to alkalise our bodies so do not need to be putting in acidic water.

Upon Waking Every Morning
Do this as soon as you wake up and before you eat or drink anything else apart from filtered water. Squeeze half a fresh lemon or pour 5ml of apple cider vinegar into a large 250ml glass of warm or room temperature filtered water and sip away until it is all gone. Remember, do this before you eat or drink anything else. This will hydrate and alkalise your body and stimulate and assist your liver in the detox process.

Now you can have a cup of tea (herbal) or coffee (decaffeinated) but we want to avoid caffeine. Do not use refined sugar. If you must sweeten your beverage, do it with Stevia (natural plant derived sweetener) or Natvia (only 0.4% calories as compared to 16 calories for equivalent in refined sugar), which contains Erythritol (fruit sugar) and Steviol Glycosides (extracted from Stevia), and now available in granulated form from most supermarkets and a lot sweeter than refined sugar.

Stevia and Natvia are among the healthiest substitutes for sugar, are non-toxic and also have several traditional medicinal uses. Studies suggest that Stevia has a regulating effect on the pancreas and could help stabilise blood sugar levels in the body.

DO NOT use artificial sweeteners like Equal as they contain very questionable ingredients like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and you do not want to be putting those into your body.

Remember, this is only a mini detox and we want to avoid all artificial stimulants. We want to create a natural energy boost that will last, not spike then crash.

Breakfast
Cereals: is a bowl of natural unsweetened cereal (check the label, if it contains sugar don’t buy it). Try puffed rice, corn or kamut with almond or pure coconut milk. If you must sweeten it try fruit, Stevia or a drizzle of pure honey (Manuka honey is the best if you can get it).

Porridge with a tablespoon of coconut oil (brain food) added and sweetened with dates, date paste, Stevia or a drizzle of pure Manuka honey.

Toast: If you have toast, use gluten-free bread with pure butter (not margarine) and smear with Vegemite or almond butter. Avoid jams and honey here as we want to avoid the sugar spike as much as possible. Try it with Vegemite, tomato and avocado (sounds like a weird combination but tastes awesome and good for you).

Pancakes, muffins and the like are okay provided they are gluten-free and do not contain added sugar (read the labels) or make your own using one of the numerous different gluten-free alternative flours readily available from your local health food store.

Smoothie: Instead of the above, try a power smoothie made with fresh fruit and vegetables with fresh filtered water (hydration again) or almond or coconut milk. We try different combinations of fruits like bananas, mango, kiwi fruit, green apples, pineapple, watermelon, paw paw, pears, peaches, nectarines, berries, tomatoes and sprouted vegetables.

We normally go to our local organic fruit and vegetable store and just buy up what’s available in the bargain trolley… hey we are not keeping it, it’s going into our smoothies… and its cost effective!

If you have to buy frozen fruits, check the labels and make sure its all pure frozen fruit with no added sugar. Yes I know unbelievable isn’t it! Why would you want to add sugar to naturally sweet fruit? Because we are addicted to sugar and the major manufacturers know it!

It’s fun to combine and we get some not so tasty combos but some that just blow your taste buds away. You can also combine green powders, readily available from your health food store, that contain a combination of (preferably fermented) cereal grasses, green vegetables and algae plus enzymes, probiotics and food-based supplements. Chlorella and cilantro (coriander) are potent heavy metal detox foods, especially for mercury. Chlorella is a food that can be consumed daily.

The one we use is Vitality Super Green which contains an extraordinary spectrum (or life force) of fermented algae and cereal grasses, fermented green veggies, enzymes, probiotics and food-based supplements providing you the highest quality green drink, to help rebuild and strengthen your immunity and to create new vitality. Check out the make-up of Vitality Super Green Here

Add a scoop or two of Vitality Super Green to your fruit smoothies and you won’t notice the difference, and the energy boost it will give you is phenomenal and will normally last all day.

Lunch
Lunch can be difficult sometimes particularly if you are working or out and about during the day. It gets tempting to just grab some fast food… but don’t do it! You will be defeating the whole purpose of the detox. Remember, its only for one week. Take a packed lunch (gluten-free wrap) with you and a large bottle of filtered water.

Try Sushi for lunch but get the rolls without meat or cooked ingredients. Try the vegetable rolls or one’s with raw fish like salmon and tuna. Or find a place that makes fresh wraps and combine whatever you want but avoid the meats. Even the local Kebab shop will give you a vegetable wrap with tabouli, tomato, lettuce, carrot, cucumber and beetroot.

Once again if you have to have a hot drink then make it a herbal tea or decaf coffee. Avoid bottled or packaged fruit juices as most say they are pure natural juice but they are mostly made from concentrate, which has sugar added (remember they know we are addicted).

Get your juice freshly squeezed from a juice bar or try 100% coconut water (great for re-hydrating) now readily available from most large supermarket chains.

Dinner
There are a lot of combinations you can try for dinner but during a detox week, we normally go for the gluten-free wraps again but this time with salmon or tuna for variety. They are nourishing and not to heavy, which is important for the evening meal as we want to process it before going to bed. Try to eat an hour or two before going to bed.

If you absolutely need a cooked meal (no meat) then try steamed vegetables with fresh fish cooked in a little pure organic coconut oil or poached in some almond or coconut water. Roast vegetables sprinkled with fresh herbs and roasted in a little coconut oil are also delicious.

We use coconut oil for all our baking, roasting and frying because it does not break down when subjected to high heat like vegetable oils and the like which oxidise when heated. Read more about why we shouldn’t use vegetable oils here https://healthyhomesblog.com under the heading “Coconut Oil in Your Kitchen

For those who don’t like the taste or smell of coconut there are varieties of coconuts that are tasteless and odourless.

There are many recipes you can try from your cookbook, just eliminate or substitute the meat and dairy and you will be surprised how tasty they are. Try rice, tomato and herb dishes or baked sweet potato with whole baked mushrooms (baking them whole seals in the juices). Remember we are only doing this for one week to see how much better we feel… its not that hard and you are going to notice the difference.

Goodies to Stuff into Your Gluten-Free Wraps
Tuna and wild salmon (canned okay but only in natural brine or spring water, Raw grated, beetroot (not canned), Cucumber, Celery, Tomatoes, Shredded raw zucchini, Grated raw sweet potato, Grated raw pumpkin (sweet and tastes great), Kale and Lettuce, Capsicum, Onions and Garlic, Herbs and spices, Hummus and Tahini, and Cous Cous, Almond nut and Chia seed spread, Dates (great sweetener for desert wraps), Banana, Kiwi Fruit, Green Apples, Shredded coconut or the meat of a fresh whole coconut, Fresh Berries (if you have to buy frozen, read the label and get the ones with no added sugar and yes most supermarkets have them. We use the Creative Gourmet brand from Coles).

When you have finished your detox it is recommended you eat only healthy fats, avoid all wheat and gluten products and minimize your sugar intake to raw honey. The following is a list of foods the fall into the preceding categories.

Healthy fats: extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, grass-fed tallow and organic or pasture-fed butter, ghee, almond milk, avocados, coconuts, olives, nuts and nut butters, cheese (except for blue cheeses), and seeds (flax seed, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, Chia seeds).

Good Sources of Protein: whole eggs; wild fish (salmon, black cod, mahi mahi, grouper, herring, trout, sardines); shellfish and molluscs (shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels, clams, oysters); grass-fed (NOT grain fed) meats (pork, beef, lamb, veal, liver, bison), free-range fowl and poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, and ostrich) and wild game.

Healthy Vegetable Choices: leafy greens and lettuces, collards, spinach, broccoli, kale, chard, cabbage, onions, mushrooms, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, sauerkraut, artichoke, alfalfa sprouts, green beans, celery, bok choy, radishes, watercress, turnip, asparagus, garlic, leek, fennel, shallots, scallions, ginger, parsley, water chestnuts.

Low-Sugar Vegetables and Fruits: avocado, bell peppers, cucumber, tomato, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, eggplant, lemons, limes.

Herbs, Seasonings, and Condiments (use fresh if you can find them): These are normally okay but just check the labels for added ingredients. Get rid of tomato sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, and chutney (nearly all are full of sugar) but mustard, horseradish, and salsa are okay provided they are free of gluten, wheat, soy, and sugar. There are virtually no restrictions on herbs and seasonings but once again check the labeling and avoid ones that were made at plants that process wheat and soy. Your best bet is to go fresh herbs and seasonings straight out of your garden or from your local organic health food store.

Superfood Powders: Raw Maca, Raw Cacao or Cocoa, Super Green Powder, Pure Organic Vegan Protein (no soy, caseins or fillers)
